Moving to Three Year Vaccines!
As of March 1st, 2008 our Doctors adopted a more tapered, individually tailored vaccination schedule to better meet the health needs of our patients.
Dogs and cats are individuals, with different lifestyles and environmental risk factors. Our new vaccines and schedules have been developed to help us provide care that is customized to each pet's unique needs. We now have the flexibility to provide vaccination care that is perfect for each patient.
Although yearly vaccination had long been the standard of care for most Veterinary Hospitals, studies have shown that, in some cases, annual vaccination confers no immunologic benefit and may actually pose unnecessary risks. This finding, combined with growing concerns about possible over vaccination, has led major universities and organizations such as the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA,) of which we are an accredited member, to recommend 3-year revaccination intervals. Some non-core vaccines such as Bordetella, Lyme and Feline Leukemia however will remain boostered on an annual to semi-annual basis.
Please do not concern yourself about deciding which vaccinations your pet needs, after all, that is what we are here for! Based on your description of your pet's lifestyle, our Doctors will best determine your pet's requirements. Also, our reception staff will appropriately update your pet’s health reminders.
